In the Biblical doctrine of salvation, we learn that God does the saving; not only justification, but also sanctification and glorification. From beginning to end, salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9). There is a civil government application to this truth. If there is a swing toward righteousness in a nation, God may be using secondary agents, but He is the one doing the work. It is crucial that we understand this truth for God only works on behalf of those who recognize their helplessness.

In Trump’s press conference at Mar-a-Lago, he emphasized that “we are now a nation of common sense.” What is common sense? And why does both the Left and the Right claim they have it and the other side has lost it? This program is about the common sense found in God’s natural law and the Biblical worldview.

Right before the New Year, Congress passed a continuing resolution to keep the government funded with more money printing. The Federal government brings in 4 Trillion and spends 6 Trillion. D.O.G.E (The Department of Government Efficiency) promises to cut 2 Trillion and balance the budget. The bureaucrat leisure class is not happy. “The exercise of justice is joy for the righteous, but is terror to the workers of iniquity” (Proverbs 21:15).

The hymn “Joy to the World” was written by Isaac Watts. The lyrics reflect Watt’s 17th century postmillennialism. When does Christ come to “rule the world with truth and grace and make the nations prove the glories of his righteousness”? In Revelation 11, when the Seventh Angel sounds then the Kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdoms of our Lord. In the Temptation, Jesus would not take the Kingdoms of this world until the Father’s time. We are to follow Christ’s example.

Evangelical Christians tend to think in terms of “salvation”, “The Gospel”, The Church”, “Heaven” but we rarely think in terms of “The Kingdom.” However, the “Kingdom” is mentioned continually throughout the New Testament. The apostle Paul preached the Kingdom of God (Acts 28:3). The spiritual lesson embodied in God calling his people a Kingdom includes the truth of citizenship. obedience, militancy, and emigration.

The Syrian government has collapsed, and ISIS terrorists have taken over the country. This will usher in a dramatic change in Middle East geopolitical dynamics. Here at Christmas time, the event also reminds us of the prophecy the Messiah’s birth in Isaiah 7:14. The child born of a virgin was to be the sign to King Ahaz that Israel would be delivered from the invading armies of Rezin, king of Syria. But in the prophesy God was looking far beyond the temporal deliverance from some foreign enemy. God was foretelling how the ultimate deliverance would come through the incarnation of the Son of God.

Last week SCOTUS heard The United States vs. Skrmetti. The Biden Administration has taken the state of Tennessee to court to overturn the new Tennessee law prohibiting gender changing medical procedures on minors. After reviewing the case, I cover three truths brought to light by this case: (1) It is impossible to change one's gender, (2) Transgender activists and supporters are deviants, and (3) Transgender supporters, building on the wrong moral foundation, become irrational.

The murder of Laken Riley is a reminder of the death and devastation that ensues when civic leaders enact unjust government policy; that is, when government neglects to follow its Romans 13 mandate to be an avenger against evil doers. The Bible is also clear that civic leaders are morally accountable for the outcomes of their policies. Hence, many have the blood of Laken Riley on their hands.

With the soon to be radically conservative administration in Washington there is a dramatic cultural shift. Will president Trump be able to implement his policies of reversing illegal immigration, expunging DEI, saving American business through tariffs, shrinking the size of bloated government and rooting out corruption in the deep state? Will it be successful? We don’t know! “Though the wise man should say, ‘I know,’ he cannot discover” (Ecc. 8:17). In God’s work in this world, expect the unexpected. “I am doing something in your days— You would not believe if you were told” (Hab. 1:5).

Last week we looked at the rejoicing over Trump’s victory; this week we look at the opposite response, “Terror to the workers of iniquity.” After covering the ideological worldview behind the rage of the Left, I discuss secondary reasons for the anger. The nations are truly in a rage against the Lord (Psalm 2).
